Thread: Ragin Cajun Softball - TWO All Americans

  1. UL Softball Ragin Cajun Softball - TWO All Americans

Karly Heath is on the NFCA All American Second Team.
Mihyia Davis is on the NFCA All American Third Team.

The NFCA is a Coaches Membership Group that has been putting out All American Honors for 40 years. To earn All American Honors, the head coach must nominate the players. A Committee of softball coaches from the NFCA reads each resume and they then vote on First, Second and Third All Regional Teams. To be in the running for All American, one must be on a First Team Regional Team. Louisiana is in the Central Region with Oklahoma so it is doubly difficult to make the First Team All Regional.
Ragin Cajuns had two on the first team; Karly and Mihyia and two on the second All Regional Team; Meghan Schorman and Lauren Allred.
The NFCA also gives out the Golden Shoe Award to the player with the most steals in a season. This is incumbent on the schedule the team played. Not always is the player with the most steals the one who gets the Golden Shoe Award. Mihyia Davis was awarded the Golden Shoe Award for 2023.

    Congratulations!

The accolades continue to come in for these two. Great individuals and great ambassadors for our university.

Both are the real deal . . .

IMO, the NFCA All American award is the designation that really means anything. The other AA teams named by the various website publications are produced just to sell subscriptions.

In regards to the Golden Spike Award, I looked at Mihyia's total steals for this year. A total of 5 came from what I would label as legitimate P5 schools (Florida, LSU, Texas, Baylor and Washington). The rest happened against weaker caliber teams. So your post about the awards committee taking into consideration the caliber of competition when awarding the award doesn't seem to hold water. l think they awarded her the award simply on the total number of steals she had this year.

Who cares? She still had the most steals and missed 10 or so games. Those games were against P5 teams in the clearwater tourney. Nobody else did what she did.

And I think you are a little too harsh. But, that is the beauty of this board, everyone can post their thoughts, no one is necessarily right but everyone has an opinion.

So, someone is not happy with one of our own being recognized.

That is probably a new low on RP . . .
