But that brings up a question: How much influence does ESPN have over the process?
Everyone involved, including ESPN, would insist they have no influence. Do we believe that? Do we really believe that if ESPN has the chance to encourage regional match-ups that would draw more eyeballs (= revenue), they wouldn't call a few people, make a few suggestions?
Because we know that that half-million viewership for the UL-State softball finals had to raise eyebrows at ESPN. Do we think that they wouldn't be interested in the possibility of a repeat in baseball, with a lot more eyeballs?
Just a wild idea. Who knows?
