Thread: BB SBC Championship Saturday G2: Louisiana 4, Coastal 1

  1. UL Baseball BB SBC Championship Saturday G2: Louisiana 4, Coastal 1

    Here is the Coastal Carolina pitching situation for tonight. What remains to be seen is how aggressive they are in trying to win tonight. Personally, another loss and hosting is not a guarantee ... but I think they likely host. But Gilmore may want to be certain and leave nothing on the table. Meaning ... we likely see Sharkey at some point tonight.

    Coastal likely starts Potok (may not be available).

    Doyle 6.0 IP 82 pitches (Wednesday 5/24)Horn 1.0 IP 23 pitches, 4.2 IP 72 pitches ... 95 pitches (Wednesday 5/24, Saturday 5/27)

    Sharkey 2.0 IP 26 pitches, 0.1 IP 7 pitches ... 33 pitches (Wednesday 5/24, Thursday 5/25)

    Eikhoff 6.2 IP 96 pitches (Thursday 5/25)
    Smith 2.0 IP 38 pitches (Thursday 5/25)
    Billings 4.1 IP 85 pitches (Saturday 5/27)
    --

    Available arms
    Potok (11 starts) 3-3 6.75 ERA 44 IP 14BB 49K .302 OBA
    Will Smith 4-1 6.75 ERA 34.2 IP 27BB 42K .262 OBA
    * Jacob Morrison (12 starts) 6-1 6.07 ERA 56.1 IP 21BB 67K .300 OBA
    Sharkey (closer) 7-1 2.80 ERA 45.0 IP 17BB 67K .209 OBA
    Bryce Shaffer 4-1 7.14 ERA 40.1 IP 26BB 44K .293 OBA

    * Morrison has not pitched since May5th when he was shelled by App State. I assume he is healthy and Gilmore has simply gone with better options. But maybe not.

    The Cajuns will be the home team tonight.

    I stand corrected. We are +15 and 52 RPI.

    Another Q1 win vs #7 Coastal tonight would really make things interesting for our at-large chances.

    As I stated earlier, #49 was not far from the Cajuns at #59 (they were 59 at game time, not 67 ... the broadcast is always well behind in their RPI rankings ... the +15 was from last night). Teams were bunched up. A win tonight and a loss tomorrow (all other things being equal) would put the Cajuns around #45. But it depends on what happens with the teams around them ... and any remaining Cajun opponents.

    At the moment, a win tonight and a loss tomorrow vs. USM would give the Cajuns about a 46 RPI ranking. Teams are tight in the 44->51 range.

    2 wins down 2 to go.

    Had to step away to do something, Cajuns down; came back, UL won. Maybe I need to do that again.

    There ~38 ish at large. SEC will gobble up 10-11 of these. Plus TX State has now dropped out of Q1 to Q2....needed those 4 wins to stay Q1. I dont see how its possible for an at-large. Same as last year.....Need to win it all or season over.

    Thought Potok was dealing with an injury?

    We slapped him around in Lafayette.

    Available for Saturday evening vs. Coastal Carolina ...

    Tate 1-1 6.65 ERA 23.0 IP 21BB 16K .160 OBA
    * Etheridge 1-1 5.52 ERA 14.2 IP 13BB 16K .212 OBA
    Parrett 0-0 4.26 ERA 6.1 IP 6 BB 4 K .272 OBA

    LaFleur 0-0 7.71 ERA 2.1 IP 3 BB 2 K .244 OBA
    Roccaforte (no innings registered ... but was used for a batter earlier in the season)

    The pitching situation actually looks better for tomorrow than it does tonight.

    * Etheridge has kept his pitch count under 25 the past two nights ... but this would be a third consecutive outing without rest. He may not be available.

    ** Hearing that Moody may be used tonight, despite throwing 39 pitches last night.

    Not sure. Did it happen last Saturday ... in his start against Marshall? Good news for us if that is the case. Because we will need to hit our way through this one.

    Yes. Evidently ... Tate, Moody (after 39 last night?), Parrett, Wilkerson. I wonder if he might bring Etheridge in to get an out or two in the 9th. Would like to be in that position.

    Wow. Guessing that he will throw only enough to get them off to a good start.
