Charles is a big time Cajun fan. Always has been. But I don't know that he'd be one to go demand how we are to be called on the air. That's just my opinion.

I've known CC for more than 40 years. He's a helluva guy. He and his partners gave me a chance to do tv play by play and that opened a door for me to do radio for the last 31 years.
Sounds like a potential ally.. Biggest questions is, has someone tried to approach him for help with this? Because if he's a big cajuns fan, he probably understands the plight.

One way or the other, a conversation should be had. If we're serious about our branding and correct name, there is no way we can allow a local media partner to be calling us ULL.

Understood....but I don't know how much the name thing means to him. Shoot, we have some of our own faculty and student-athletes refer to us as ULL. We (me included) are pretty anal about it. But boy, we are in a big minority.

If someone disagrees with this, they are the problem.

Last Fall Book, Jordy Show 2-4p M-F Men 25-34, Ranked 12th in market, 200 Avg Quarter Hr listeners, 4 share....Men 35-64, Ranked 13th, 400 AQH listeners, 2.2 share...which basically means that of all the men in the market 35-64, 97.8% who were listening to radio were listening to someone else...that's real dominance...

I agree with all of this. He has been a pioneer in Southern Louisiana media. He is a prince of a guy. I also doubt that bombarding him will get you anywhere.

Thanks Jay and 71. Knew you guys would eventually chime in.

Local sports talk isn’t a big market to begin with. Ticking off just a few of potential listeners doesn’t move their financials either way. At the same time, it’s like the old saying “don’t ____ on me and tell me it’s raining”.

Simply get out of the “rain”. And don’t frequent their supporters.

It’s the same principle as buying local. 103.7 is doing a minimum to be local.

While being a big Cajuns fan is one thing. I'm sure number one in his book is being a business person and trying ti eke out a profit in a very competitive business. I have met the man and he is a very astute person and can size up the situation quite easily. If having a big LSU supporter that hates the cajuns on makes money I'm sure that's where he will land. I suspect the number of tiger fans listening will far out weigh the number of cajuns fans. Given the small numbers of listeners mentioned above I really don't think it will make that much difference.

I'm not a "boycott" everything type, but I will certainly be boycotting this station.
The email she sent was obviously a slap in the face.

On top of that, it's time the Communications Department (backed by the AD) took some bold moves. Either this Moscona creep refer to our athletics property on Delta has their credentials revoked. If we had people in positions of influence with balls, we could solve so many problems around here. If we're serious about our branding efforts (which I know we all have our doubts), it's time they take a stand. Way passed time. And if not, what's the point of fighting for something when our own leadership doesn't fight for it?

There is an element here, but that's far from true. That's the "we own everything" opinion that their garbage fans spout. The state is boarder to boarder tiger fans? No it's not. Not even close. You have hundreds of thousands of fans, students and alums of other universities that would agree. Plus, a large percentage of the population that just don't care either way.

Yes, we need to do better promoting our own brand. Especially in our own city. But, UL still outnumbers purple fans in Lafayette.

Yeah, this isn’t gonna work too well.
Sorry brother, but many of us grew up in Lafayette as Astro fans. That might be a problem in Colorado, but it's not here in Lafayette.

I wonder how many of ya'll there would be if the Astros were still averaging 60 wins a season. Everyone was a Braves, Cubs or Yankees fan when I was growing up in Lafayette (80's/90's), funny how winning changes everything.

Solution for all of UL's problems, win and keep winning in everything!
