There has been a lot complaints about the way the university is referenced to by the media and academic arenas. To find out what is allowed I went to the Louisiana.edu website and found this is what has been provided to the media as to the proper use of the university's name:

UL Lafayette is the approved academic abbreviation for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as per the university itself. Louisiana is athletics nickname. Note neither ULL or UL-Lafayette is to be used in any instance (Listed under Inaccurate References). Don't blame the academic departments or Alumni Association for using UL Lafayette as they are allowed to.

There's the response to all this nonsense. Just post the link. Don't even debate because they will never give in. Save the keystrokes.

What did he think would happen? They mocked and ridiculed our legislators in the house during the 1999-2000 name battle. They mocked and ridiculed Jay Walker when he embraced the name and refused to stop saying it on the air. They mocked and ridiculed Hudspeth when he made us nationally relevant and used Louisiana.

The law clearly states University of Louisiana must be followed by "at" no less than 80% the size of the schools name.

UL is short for University of Louisiana thus requiring the "at" so, simply using the abbreviation does not erase the required "at."

What Louisiana is using academically, is illegal according to the legislation.

I will repeat what I posted in another thread. The university needs to use a singular academic logo to bridge the gap with the athletic logo. It meets all legal requirements and clearly sets the stage for a singular LOUISIANA reference.

That thinking is over 25 years outdated. It is going to change. We are a Carnegie Tier One University. This is the same level as the Purple and Puke!
