Besides the home run, stealing bases is one of my favorite things in baseball.
Degg's aggressive approach and the team's speed should give the team a chance to break the record.
For those that we are too aggressive on the base paths. The Cajuns have been caught stealing 36 times on the season. Of those 36 times, only eight have been in Cajun's losses. Of those eight, it happened in five games. So if you want to say those caught stealing cost us five games, you have to acknowledge the stolen bases that won us games. Our speed on the best paths was displayed when the lspoo pitcher threw the ball into centerfield on a pickoff attempt.
Speed kills, and for the Cajuns this season, it is the opponents who we have been killing.
I honestly love our aggressive style of base running. To be fair to the criticism, which I also agree with, I think our SB success % is higher than our "it was a smart decision to send this runner %". We have the speed to cover up some boneheaded decisions. Sometimes when it's a really boneheaded decision, we get caught. That is why the caught stealing stands out imo.
You also have to acknowledge level of competition. We bludgeon bad teams on the base paths.
Stats are stats. They don’t tell the whole story. We are still unnecessarily aggressive on the base paths.
This more like touting than defending.
Agree somewhat here. The speed is a distraction and forces the opposition to be perfect.
However, attempting to steal third with one of our faster guys already in scoring position is head scratching.
Racking up 10 stolen bases against SWAC teams is fools gold though.
