Thanks for the information; it is a little disturbing that we hear about this from a fan, on a fan board, a day before it happens.

    Congratulations Kevin!

  8. UL Basketball Louisiana's Kevin Brooks to be Inducted into LABC Hall of Fame

Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns star basketball player Kevin Brooks will be inducted into the Louisiana Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in a ceremony Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Brooks scored 2,294 points in a Cajun uniform and left for the NBA as the program's third all-time leading scorer.

Brooks is one of three Cajuns being honored on Saturday. Joining him are head coach Bob Marlin and Jordan Brown who were named the Major College Coach of the Year and Player of the Year respectively.

Brooks had three seasons in which he averaged more than 20 points per game, including a career-high 21.6 as a senior in 1990-91. He also pulled down 719 rebounds, the 14th most in school history. His senior season he connected on the sixth most field goals in school history with 261. Brooks was the first player in program history with 2,000 points and 700 rebounds, a feat only accomplished by Shawn Long since.

A three-time First Team All-American South Conference honoree, Brooks was drafted 18th overall in the first round of the 1991 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. A trade sent Brooks to Denver where he spent three seasons with the Nuggets before embarking on a career overseas. He won a pair of championships with the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League, collecting a Grand Finals MVP Award in 1998, in Australia before retiring as a player in 2004.

Brooks then transitioned to a long career in coaching in the NBL, including two seasons as a head coach and nine seasons total with his former team the 36ers.

Individuals are nominated to the Hall of Fame by their respective schools and are elected on an annual basis by a vote of the LABC's Board of Directors. Individuals are not eligible for election until at least five years after they have completed their collegiate careers. Brooks is the 10th Cajun to be elected and the first since Roy Ebron in 2014.
