The Big 12 wants to expand its market to Mexico and is thinking Fresno State (officially California State University Fresno) may be the link to add to the conference to accomplish that. The Big 12 is also talking about expanding coast to coast. See the below article.

Made me think about the talk on this board about expanding UL's possible French connection. What about French speaking Canada? Can UL bring any market value that might attract a P5 conference?

The Big-12 will expand eventually, but it will be with the likes of the Arizona schools, Colorado and Utah. The PAC-12 is on life support.

The new PAC-12 TV Deal will make or break the conference. When that gets signed, everyone will know exactly the status of the conference. I am not optimistic for the PAC-12, but if they get someone to overpay, then they will be fine.

The Big 12 will expand with or without Pac 12 members and the commish wants to expand the conference from west to east. He just returned from Mexico scouting stadiums in which to host conference games and wants a greater media exposure for the conference in Mexico and across the USA. Fresno State apparently brings a lot to the table regarding the Mexico and west coast markets. Fresno State has a great following in the central valley of California and has built up a great fan base. They along with San Diego State, Colorado State and UNLV are the most attractive Big 12 western expansion members if they don't pick up Pac 12 members and the Pac 12 doesn't expand. They are also Pac 12 prospects if it does expand.
