I bet Blake Butler is being brought in as an experienced player to take over the Jalen Dalcourt role of providing scoring off the bench. Could also challenge Kentrell Garnett for a starting spot. Another role may be to back up Kobe Julien at the 3 spot. Kobe will probably play the 4 man position at times this coming year. Note, he played 3 years at EMCC (JC in Mississippi) due to an extra covid year. MVP of the Mississippi JUCO league this year and honorable mention JUCO All American. Averaged 20 ppg, 6 rpg, and 2 assists per game this past season. He has 2 years of eligibility remaining. That does not mean the three freshman guards being brought in can't contribute. They will have to battle for playing time and work on developing their game. My guess is they simply wanted an older and more mature player for the position. Note, these comments are strictly my opinion based on research I have performed. The coaching staff may have a completely different view of the situation.
