    UL Basketball MBB Commit

I bet Blake Butler is being brought in as an experienced player to take over the Jalen Dalcourt role of providing scoring off the bench. Could also challenge Kentrell Garnett for a starting spot. Another role may be to back up Kobe Julien at the 3 spot. Kobe will probably play the 4 man position at times this coming year. Note, he played 3 years at EMCC (JC in Mississippi) due to an extra covid year. MVP of the Mississippi JUCO league this year and honorable mention JUCO All American. Averaged 20 ppg, 6 rpg, and 2 assists per game this past season. He has 2 years of eligibility remaining. That does not mean the three freshman guards being brought in can't contribute. They will have to battle for playing time and work on developing their game. My guess is they simply wanted an older and more mature player for the position. Note, these comments are strictly my opinion based on research I have performed. The coaching staff may have a completely different view of the situation.

Looks like a nice pickup. Ranked #17 JUCO prospect overall by Jucorecruting.com. As of now he takes up the only scholarship available that was opened by Richards entering the portal. I would think regardless of what happens with Brown another big is needed to fill Richard’s role. Would say that means some more roster movement is in store. Could see a situation where Sigona moves from scholarship to walk on but that is just speculation on my part.

I met coach marlin at the airport last Friday. He was dressed in Cajun gear and waiting down by baggage claim. I wonder if he was waiting for this recruit. I spoke to him for about 5 minutes. He stated that he has been on the phone with Jordan’s dad trying to see what Jordan is going to do. Seemed like he thought there was a chance he might be coming back. Also stated that they kind of expected richards to transfer. Had nothing but good things to say about him. Just needed a change of venue and a chance for more playing time.

Marlin was at the baseball game Friday night at least before the game started. He had three or four young men with him.

Yeah, I landed at 4:30 PM and he was at baggage claim, so that would make sense. The flight was coming in from Atlanta, so it is possible he was waiting on someone on my flight. I did not see anyone with him at the time.

Actually there is another scholarship available now if you assume Jordan does not return.
Jordan Brown is one of four seniors from this past season. Add Richards and 5 scholarships become available. We signed two in early signing period and have now signed two in spring recruiting. 5 minus 4 equals one. That one scholarship will go to an experienced inside player from either the portal or JUCO ball. I have no idea who that may be. We WILL sign an inside player. How good he will be is a completely different question that none of us know the answer too now. If Jordan returns, then we face a situation where someone will have to pay their own way or move on. I suspect we will have a decision by Jordan on his future plans by the end of the month.

Butler was likely in that group. They often bring recruits to on campus activities during their official visits. Their usually have a player host the recruit as well so one of the people in the group you saw was likely a current player. Our assistant coaches are also pretty young and someone in that role may have been part of the group.
