I’m going to just start going to more Rodeos.
Aside from the GI Bill, nothing has helped put more low income young people through college than the collegiate, athletic, scholarship model.
As more and more money is funneled to the elites, there will be less and less money around to fund FCS and G5 programs, and subsequently, less scholarships available.
The NIL will end up hurting way more young people than it helps.
At some point it will blow up on more players than not. Get a six figure deal over a few years for a great college talent but doesn’t sniff pro ball…and failed to work as hard on the student side of the equation. Ends up a truck driver for Rooms To Go…wants to sue someone for their failures, the university will be the first target because of deep government pockets and simple complicity.
Give it time, it’s coming.
Yup, at what point will any school that isn't a P5 say "screw it" and just do away with football (at least) and other revenue-generating sports in general?
My god-son pointed something out last night; are we gonna be looking at 17 year old kids potentially making more than the college professors who are there to fulfill the actual purpose of higher education?
Its one thing for coaches to make upwards of $10 million, but now players are gonna make more than their professors?
What needs to happen is UL must think out side the box as to something as crazy as pitching the Saudi PIF to take over the athletics and take it main stream!! As of now UL will never be able to sustain competition against P-5 without significant financial backing.
