They were very close and Napier had the advantage of everybody returning after a free covid year. Desormeaux had the first real year of portal and NIL yet both Teams were a handful of plays away from 9-10 wins. The 6th and 7th year players obviously had the intangibles you gain from Playing together for 4 years and last years team didn’t
I don't think you get it, at least not yet.
The given is that Louisiana is losing players it elevated.
The question is how is Louisiana going to replace them?
Do you only replace them with unknown high-school players that very few wanted, or do you replace them with formerly highly sought after players who found themselves riding the bench and just need a chance to redeem themselves?
I have little hope in next season. Teams like USM & South Alabama for starters, have the bulk of their teams back with key starters. Throw in portal players have the advantage of being physically ready opposed to players right out of high school, it’s a mountain to climb. Hope I’m wrong, but it looks like a duck, we’ll see if it walks and quacks this fall.
Worried about attendance? We should be. Nothing decreases attendance in ANY stadium faster than losing.
Trey had 14 p5 offers within 24 hours of entering the portal. Maybe more now. It’s amazing how all these teams were ready with offers so quickly. Just lucky, I guess.
I was talking with SlickRick last night at the softball game and he made a great point about kids that are in the portal. We all know that Des doesn't want to use the portal, but he will have to at some point. SlickRick suggested any current kid in the portal that UL previous offered should be re offered again.
I thought the same thing this morning just in jest. It would have been funny to see our logo on some of these sites following his re-recruitment.
But I can imagine it might happen at some point with some player. That’s just how silly this all is.
Like a pro player holding out for a better contract or requesting a trade. That’s that nil and the portal are for in a lot of cases.
