Well it didn't exactly work out well for Garner right? Torrence was an All-American when he left UL so his draft evaluation improved a little according to evaluators. There is no guarantee of being drafted simply by transferring. The NIL opportunities are the first priorty for most G5 athletes and working with a specific coach or staff that have a history of sending a number of athletes to the NFL.

BTW, two sources in the SEC told me Amos's NIL deal offered was for his own clothing attire line including hoodies and other accessories, total value of around $300K. That doesn't mean he will make that much, but that is what they offered. He has two years of eligibility left.

I can't conceive of the amount of money I would have to have to give hundreds of thousands of it a kid to play football for a few years at my school.

    This resembles bowl game money.

"Here is the value of the seats now go out and sell them."

Very true, T. I felt Trey was a legitimate NFL prospect as recent as last year. He did a great job holding his own vs. Tank Dell in Shreveport. I’m just upset right now.

There’s guys who make it, and many more who don’t. Amos has 2 years to make a brand line of clothing, the backing goes away after FB unless the scores a solid NFL gig. Theoretically he could finish college, no pro gig, in debt up to his neck, NIL gone and then what?

Unfortunately, this will keep happening. Its obviously demoralizing to fans. There's a corrosive effect to programs from all of this. Having said that, I'm not opposed to players making $$$ like anyone else trying to get ahead in life. NIL is here to stay in some shape or form even though some the money being tossed around is insane. But I do wonder if the NCAA could tighten up these transfer rules a bit basing it upon a reasonable dose of academic integrity? For example, no transfer until you have at least 90 credit hours and of course the grad transfer rule remains as is. The top flight players going pro will leave after their 3rd year of eligibility anyway.

It's not even really the deal that bothers me. Sure it's a massive carrot in front of anyone, but you can't tell me that he did not have an idea about what would be available before he entered the portal. That's what really ticks me off. Players being actively lured away from universities they are actively enrolled in. The NIL rules are pretty limited, but they are clear that you can't use it to recruit player away from school to school.

Anyway. I saw Garner was at the combine. He went undrafted and signed as a UDFA with the Eagles. Not exactly anything that he could not have done with another season at Louisiana.

Yeah, my first thought about the "better draft prospect" argument was Garner.

BTW, to your point about an apparel line, are any of the old Fruit of the Loom mills anywhere close to be functional. Just halfway joking but have the collective buth the plant and set everybody up with their own lines.

Or have the collective buy the Ragin' Cajun Store and everybody gets a cut.

    Maybe?

I just get so bummed when kids graduate; this crap hurts my soul.

I don't know what happened to them but Fruit of the Loom donated apparel manufacturing equipment to Authement with the idea of starting an apparel manufacturing degree of some sort.

Can we find a mothball sniffing canine?

Of course not, tampering clearly is going on through back channels. What's ironic is several staff members expressed their concern about Amos last year at the coach's crawfish boil. This past season was his first as a starter which would give other programs more video to evaluate. His parents assured the staff that Amos was here to stay.

Going forward, the athletes have stipends and NIL opportunities. I'm not entirely against it because it now presents a professional landscape in college football in player and coaches relationships. The athletes can leave for NIL opportunities and the coaches have the right to cut them from the program without paying them a dime.

I don't want to hear from parents that they were lied to by coaches and don't want to hear the term student athlete again.

All this stuff just is sad. I’m afraid so many young men are going to get screwed over on some of these so called deals.
