Thread: Trey Amos in the portal

I just don't understand why boosters think giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to these kids to maybe get an extra win or 2 is worth it. What does it do for your ego? It's just entertainment. I'll continue to go to games because I like watching live sports, but I can't see myself giving extra donations to RCAF just to watch our best players go elsewhere.

Skyrocketing insurance rates (home & auto) and we have injury lawyers bankrolling TSAB's roster.

This is a professional model now.

Players drafted from FCS, G5 and the bottom of the P5 have fallen a lot from last season. The players are sorting themselves according to NIL value. For college football, conferences mean nothing now. The new division line is NIL capacity. The end result will be a system similar to the baseball minor league system.

Top of P5 is the AAA. Bottom P5/TopG5 is AA. Bottom G5/FCS is A.

Now, it could be possible that in the future a situation like we have in baseball arises where we have distinct MLB affiliated professional minor league and the collegiate model coexisting. For this to happen, the top of the P5 will have to completely divorce themselves from the NCAA for football only, and the rest of us continue with the pre-NIL model.

I, for one, am praying greatly that this happens.

____ this! I hate everything about NIL and the portal. The portal more than anything.

Is there ever going to be a cap on NIL $$$? Or is it just an unfettered arms race until college kids are making more than professionals?

Top P5 will always need rent a wins in order to complete a perfect or near perfect season. They really don’t want to divorce themselves because they do not want to have the L risks 12 weeks out of the season. It’s just too hard.

That will be our place in the scheme of things.

There will never be a cap. NIL in college is just like sponsorships in NFL. It’s outside money from the organized sport itself. Money from the organized sport can be capped because to play in the organization you must follow those rules. Each professional is free to go out in the market and make as much or little as the market will bare.

Now college athletes are under the same rules. NCAA governess what they can get from the school. NIL governs what they can get outside of the school.

That makes sense. If NIL can't be reined in, then the transfer portal rules need tweaking.

There really is no legal way to rein in NIL after the United State Supreme Court has spoken.

The only available mechanism to somewhat rein in what is out there now would be for the NCAA to go back to requiring that a player sit out a year upon transfer. I doubt seriously that the P5 will allow it to go back to that at this juncture.

So, like I said, it is what it is and we will have to learn to live with it.

Just going out there and getting better pitching or a better QB or better linemen will just not be easy other than to recruit freshmen talent that has not been discovered and develop them until their big NIL deal comes around. To compete there, there will need to be a lot more investment here than is available at the moment.

    It is what it is.

Transfer portal and NIL is killing G5s. Death by a thousand cuts. If NIL has no limits, then the portal needs adjusting. Sitting out a year will help stop some of the mass exodus. Only allow one transfer in your college career or must stay at a school a minimum of two or three years before eligible to transfer out. Just a few suggestions.

They have been changed. There are now two windows when the transfer portal opens. One is in May (1-15) for the first two weeks , yesterday was the first day for the spring period. Graduate students can transfer at any time. The first window begins runs 45 days, beginning the day after the national championship in that sport.

Make no mistake about this…Trey is another NFL talent we are losing.
