Boy it was hard getting through the first ten pages of this cry fest. I never read so many Betsy Wetsy stories back to back in my life. You guys do realize there's a solution to all of this? If someone steals yours, then steal someone else's. Don't get even. Get ahead. It's the new law of the college jungle. Either use it, or freaking perish. I have news for Mike Desormeaux. If the self righteous one who ____ed & moaned the most about his competitors using the portal to gain an unfair advantage can use the portal to steal our players, then Mike damn sure doesn't have an excuse not to use the portal for the good of UL football. If he says he's not using it for moral reasons. Then the translation of that is he's too scared to recruit the portal because he doesn't have enough balls, or enough connections to help his team get ahead. Either way, the only person to blame if he doesn't use it is him.
Any coach who can't adapt & adjust to this change in the college landscape shouldn't be employed as a head football coach in college football. It's that simple. Either use the portal to compete & make your team better Mike Desormeaux, or go buy a lucky dog wagon & sell hot dogs like JD Roberts did after the Saints fired him. But don't even call yourself an FBS football coach & you refuse to use all the tools in the tool box.
Good points BWK.
Napier showed us what UL football could be at its peak. We all have to accept what we saw and the missed opportunities. Let's give Mike some time. We all know the university has not given him the resources of his predecessor.
This is why I would argue we should go all in on basketball in this NIL environment. We can't pay 22 kids top dollar for their football services, but we can pay three or four high level basketball players.
Basketball is more sustainable for us in the future.
I'm cool with not giving NIL money for football, we'll never sniff the playoffs. Get comfortable recruiting local kids to play in a crap stadium, have a few good seasons and attend a regional bowl game. The sooner we accept this, the faster we can become the Villanova or Gonzaga of the south.
O line is very talented and young just had so many injuries last year couldn’t piece it together. They will be very good in the 2 deep. They just need to stay healthy. Linebackers will be talented, secondary will be talented and deep even with the departure of Amos. RB will be talented and 4 deep baring injury. D line depth will be a question mark. I don’t know enough about the WRs that didn’t play last year to make an assessment on them. Got pretty decent talent coming back. All who have made positive contributions. Hopefully we’re not trying to force it to one guy in triple coverage this year when 3 others are wide open.
The unit group that I have most questions about is WR.
Jacob Bernard is a star.
Lance Legendre SHOULD be a star, but I need to see it before we crown him.
Pete Leblanc, if healthy, should contribute.
Other than that, we are young. Talented, but young. Lots of guys that need to prove it on the field. Robinson and Harvey Broussard will be interesting new comers to pay attention to.
Still, we lost a lot of experience the last 2 years. Need to stay healthy as a group this season.
