BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal says he's surprised
how many people have told him they're interested in being appointed
lieutenant governor for the short stint of the appointment.
Jindal intends to name a temporary replacement to fill the
office, which will be left vacant when Mitch Landrieu moves to the
New Orleans mayor's job next month. The person would take office
until January.
Jindal has said he will only appoint someone who doesn't intend
to run for the job in the fall election. And Jindal also is asking
lawmakers and voters to abolish the position entirely.
Despite his push to get rid of the job, Jindal said Monday that
he's heard from business leaders, state lawmakers and local
officials who are interested in the lieutenant governor's
appointment.
