One thing I’d like to add to this (great post by the way), and I can’t find the post to quote it, but I know I saw it…
Someone actually said that Carson Roccaforte has been “terrible” this year. Seriously, someone said that.
Just to rebut, while he hasn’t had the year that he had last year (few guys do), he is currently hitting .323 this season. He leads the team in doubles. He’s 3rd on the team in RBIs. He’s stolen 18 bases and has played nearly flawless defense…at two completely different positions.
Everyone was in love with him after he burst on the scene as a freshman, and rightfully so. Well this season, in nearly the same amount of playing time, he’s hitting 50 points higher than he did his freshman year. Has 7 more doubles, 8 more RBIs, a SLG% 50 points higher, an OB% 85 points higher, has struck out 10 less times and has stolen more bases.
He’s having a pretty darn good season. The fact that it hasn’t been as good as last year doesn’t mean it’s bad. The dude had an incredible year last year. And has been good again this season.
And as Jay said, his draft status has ZERO to do with any single number on a stat sheet. A whole lot of things go into who gets drafted, and where. It’s highly likely Carson Roccaforte’s name will be called inside of the top 10 rounds, and if so, while it would be great to have him for another season here, I would wish him the best of luck pursuing the dream.
And before some bozo says he runs up stats against bad teams, he’s played games against 5 teams in the top 50 of the RPI. And he’s hitting .310 in those 11 games.
