There is no University of Louisiana Lafayette.

This is why Doc Ray fought for the name change. I wasn’t anything to do with athletics. It was so when competing for federal grant money and projects he’d have the same name as at Austin, At Chapel Hill, at Lincoln at Knoxville… You’d think they’d get it right.

Authement never wanted "at" or "Lafayette" turned out it was his only option.

Unfortunately marketing fumbled the ball with it's implementation.

I think we worry too much about that. Before our successes the past few years, and back when the name was new and it was not clear who was who, it was important.

But the additions of Austin, Berkeley, Champaign-Urbana, Athens, Chapel Hill, etc., don't hurt those schools. In fact, the location name makes it clear that there are multiple campuses in their system.

We have established ourselves. We are the largest, most comprehensive, and foremost research campus in the system, with the most success in athletics. Inside of Louisiana, everyone knows who we are are.

Outside of the state, the 'at Lafayette' and second 'L' are quickly disappearing. So the rest of the world knows who we are, too.

Complaining about it just gives aid and comfort to the enemy. We have plenty of mountains left to climb, so let's stop focusing on the ones we have already conquered.

I think the two things that really stand out here are that NASA selected UL, and the company we're with. Goddard Space Flight, JPL, MIT, the Naval and Military Academies, Colorado, and a few other lightweights.

Doc, I am going to completely disagree with you on this issue. Our communications people and stupid alumni association constantly sends out Linkin and Twitter messages referring to us as UL Lafayette, regardless of what awards we won. This is the wrong messaging for UL and future quality students. The enemy is us.
