All valid points, boys…but IF Louisiana does what I’ve listed…we are in. It starts tonight! If we lose this series, we can kiss any hopes of an at large goodbye.

It always starts “tonight”. Kinda like a diet always starts tomm. Well, it should of started 3 weeks ago. This team is what it is. And i dont think it can get better than what its already shown. Can it compete with the best? Yes, for short periods of time. For whatever reason its as good as it will be. Sad thing is i still believe it SHOULD win 2/3 the rest of the way. I do think its capable of doing that but i doubt it will.

If Louisiana does what I listed they might win the regular season. Their RPI would also jump. The door isn’t completely shut yet.

We all said at the end of last year that with the offense we had coming back we needed to get a few arms in the portal. We get Mcgehee which has been solid when healthy. But we get no other impact arms that is killing us. When we trot out Hammond as a Friday night starter that’s a red flag. He is a bullpen arm at best. Everything he throws is hard no off speed at all. Nezuah is a thrower not a pitcher. No offspeed pitches at all. He is more suited to close with his fastball. Man I miss the days of a lefty starter who can mix it up like Leger. We have no one like that in years.

We’ve lost to 4 and 8, down 1-0 to 11 and beaten 10,13 and 14. We don’t play 5,7,9 and have 1,3,6 and 12 left.

I think you are giving examples that are more of “that’s baseball” than inconsistency. Yes, college teams are going to have games where they just crap the bed. What we are watching with this team is double digit strikeouts from the offense AND double digit free bases by the pitching staff over and over and over. Many of us have been watching this program for decades. While we’ve had some really bad teams, I’ve never seen a team swing through so many fastballs and not be able to throw strikes at the clip we are witnessing. Unless we take these next two, we will have still failed to win a single series against a team with a winning record.

You are quickly forgetting 2019

And all the comments about “consistency”. Consistency in baseball is winning 2 of 3 on the weekends and about the same in the aggregate during midweek games.

If you’re looking for consistency from game to game, or in some of the comments, inning to inning, you’re watching the wrong sport.

That said, the handling of the staff last night was atrocious and cost a game that should have been a win. All of the griping about the offense….well they scored 8 runs. That’s really good. And it probably should have been more without some terrible base running decisions.

Consistency in baseball is playing the game fundamentally sound. Not giving free passes. Putting the ball in play. Not running yourself out of innings. You can hit the ball on the nose 27 times, pitch and play lights out defense and lose 1-0. Tip your cap. And that can happen 3 nights in a row and you wouldn’t hear a single complaint from me. That’s NOT what this team is doing this year.
