My daughter danced from the age of 3 all the way through college here at UL. She was also on a number of national championship dance teams at STM before becoming a member of the Ragin Jazz for four years. She also taught dancing for a number of years after she finished at UL, while also teaching in the public school system here in Lafayette. She is now married and is a wonderful mother of a special baby boy. I am a big fan of sports in general and have been my whole life. But I don't think the majority of people that attend sporting events here at UL, or anywhere for that matter, realize just how much work these young ladies put in to do what they do.
Congratulations to all of you that have daughters carrying on the tradition of the Ragin Jazz!
Ragin Jazz Dancing is a sport. You got to be in shape to do Dat?
I'll say this.
First, want to shout out to my co-worker Saige Brady. She took over as the co-coach on an interim basis last year.
I said this to her and I'll say it to all of you. I travel to a lot of schools. There's no dance team better than the Ragin' Jazz. Every single year. And, second place isn't all that close.
If you make the Jazz, you've really accomplished something.
You might be right about most not recognizing how much work, and talent it takes to make the RaginJazz, but almost everyone has daughters, or granddaughters. A great many take dancing and they realize how competitive dance is and how few persue it because it’s a lot like Little League. The first few years are about fun and learning, but then becomes very hard to make a team.
They had a nice run for a few years

And it all started with the Memphis State Pom-Pom girls in the 80’s. Each member had different color leggings. MSU played in a regional in BR. People went to see them perform, many left after half.
