Better option is to cherry pick from FCS.
We wouldn’t want any of these players.
Here’s the thing about DIII football. There has been an explosion of small liberal arts colleges starting DIII programs, and it isn’t because there’s a huge appetite for college football. Many of these schools are struggling, and starting a non-scholarship football program is a cheap and easy way for a college to boost enrollment by 100-150 people. These are not D1 ball players. These are kids that couldn’t get a scholarship but want to keep playing competitive football. All it takes to make most DIII teams is moderate athletic ability and the means to pay private school tuition.
The link for the 2024 season says Centenary has a Catahoula for their mascot.
This is gonna hurt the necksters attendance!!!
Why would we not want a mascot that is one of our few campus traditions, The Swamp and Gator? Other than being the State Dog, UL has no ties to the Catahoula, much less having 2 universities with the State Dog as a mascot. For that matter, we could go with a Pelican as the State Bird. I guess it doesn't matter that Tulane now uses it. I get it, we are all entitled to our opinion, but why do we always seem to fight the obvious?
Two of the same "in the same state" influenced the change way back when.
That, and what some deemed to be high maintenance and some difficulty in keeping the dogs alive.
