Thread: Two huge conference games tonight

  1. UL Baseball Two huge conference games tonight

Mondays are traditionally not a very good night for college baseball specifically for the belt but tonight there are two huge games because of the holiday weekend.

#21 Coastal travels to Buies Creek, NC to take on #14 Campbell.

Also #82 [Rpi) texas State is host to # 19 Texas.

Texas State is playing back to backs with the Longhorns. They travel to Austin tomorrow night.

Nice. I'm watching Days of Thunder for the 1000th time and was wondering if there would be any CBB tonight (Due to Easter). MNCBB pretty rare.

Brian, if you come across this thread:

Campbell and Coastal will be like opponents and we will have played them both 3 times. I know the home games will change the value but with regard to opponents opponents, does it help or hurt the Cajuns if Campbell beats the Covid Chickens?

Medrano was lights out tonight. Swing and miss stuff (8Ks in 4 2/3 IP) ... good velocity and a nice breaking ball. Hard to believe he had an ERA in the 6's and an OBA over .300.

Unfortunately for Texas State, Texas can pitch themselves.

It is not always the case that this situation is a wash, but in this case it is (to three OWP decimal places). The reason why it is sometimes not a wash is that RPI is calculated by averaging winning percentages. You do not sum the W/L records over the entire schedule and then use the winning percentage. The differences come into play when there is a significant difference in # of games played.

    Ex. Team B has a record of 20-9 (.690) and Team C has a record of 13-6 (684).

Team A win over Team B results in OWP contributions of .700 and .650 (1.350 total).
Team B win over Team A results in OWP contributions of .667 and .700 (1.367 total).

In this scenario, it would be advantageous for Team (C)ajun to have Team B defeat Team A.

It makes more of a difference early in the season (when games played disparity is more significant). As the season comes to a close, the difference approaches zero.

I think the more significant thing here will be ... how many times will the Cajuns actually play Coastal Carolina? Will it be two times (a rainout and no meeting in the conference tournament)? Three times? Or four or more?
