On Twitter, he has had hundreds of positive reactions. I’m seeing him spread like wild fire already on Instagram. Al could be the one of the coolest mascots in the state, if not the country. People my age, I’m 28, and below are seeing that too! I’m finding people who have never posted about UL ever, or they proudly wear purple and gold regularly, share Albineaux! I think a good portion of women don’t want to wear just letters or another FDL on their clothing. So UL’s branding hasn’t catered to them in a long time. That’s why I’ve had numerous girls message me saying they would wear an Albineaux sweater or shirt, TODAY! Y’all don’t know how happy it makes me to see people repping their school that don’t usually do.

That’s what a mascot is supposed to do right? Make people feel proud of where they come from. Inspire. Make them feel respected.

Speaking of respect, a Northwestern State fan account with like four thousand followers retweeted Al! That’s nuts! All of our past mascots just got us laughed at. Al might be the first one that could be shown to our rivals and be respected. Possibly admired. Possibly envious.

That’s what scary about all this guys is…we’re so close. I really really think this is it, and could be so special. I wish Dr. Maggard & Dr. Savoie could see the interactions or excitement I’m seeing for Al. Otherwise, all this could be for nothing. UL fans will continue to want to fill the void and our students will resume missing out on experiences kids across the basin have regularly. I’d be so sad.

Lastly, thank you for everyone’s compliments on here. I’ve seen RP be really divided about a lot of things but it really is comforting to see WAY more unity here then on the fans of Ragin Cajun Football Page.
I think you are on to something big! He would be a attendance boost for the kids(future fans) similar to what the chicken did.

How many times do I have to type this?

This is the GOLDEN RULE of Mascots/Nicknames/Branding ......

When your Nickname is a group of people, your mascot MUST be either a physical representation of said people or a background figure that does not cause branding confusion.

    Volunteers - Coon hound(state dog)
    Aggies - Collie(tradition)
    Mountaineers - Mountaineer Man
    Irish - Leprechaun Man

    Cajuns?

In my opinion, we have 3 options.

    Cajun Man
    Catahoula(state dog)
    Cayenne/Chicken(tradition)

    Pick one.
Anything else either would make no sense, or cause branding confusion.

If I can piggy back on that....let's remember the FCChicken was never a mascot or a spirit leader....he was an entertainer. A normal mascot is not that.

The mascot must be something that kids can embrace. If he's scary, it ain't working (see: Cayenne II).

    The mascot must NEVER speak.

The mascot is one of the best opportunities you have in athletics to spread good cheer. He/she must be willing to interact with the fan base.

I'm not totally opposed to what's been suggested. But I do believe a catahoula (not live) mascot would be best.

Seems like Al fits this exact description. How would an alligator be confused with a Cajun person?

I think it checks all the boxes

If you have ever traveled out of Louisiana to see friends and the topic settled on wildlife, or had visitors come to Louisiana with an exploratory spirit, you know there is no greater better, more fitting of a background figure for "LOUISIANA" (one that does not cause branding confusion) than the alligator.

Over the years, my dozens of cousins from Nebraska all asked, "I want to see an Alligator."

Not once, EVER, have I ever been asked to see a Catahoula.

I guess having a swamp with alligators on campus doesn’t fit the tradition narrative. Geezus this schitt literally writes itself. An alligator as JUST A MASCOT would not cause confusion for anyone.

This was an official graphic from the university. Official. Everybody look at the animal they’re using. Albineaux is the mascot UL has been waiting for.

The alligator has been used in more SLI, USL, UL, Louisiana documentation and promotion than any other character in history.

    It's organic.

That includes the once official bulldog.

LOUISIANA Catahoula dog is the logical choice. It’s unique to Louisiana (which the university thrives on) and isn’t a cartoonish mascot.
