Shocker. The oldest factions of our fanbase that fight any amount of change. What are they saying?

Good idea to get something back in the works. But is the alligator the way to go?

Do they want to put a leash on him?

I do wish this would be billed as a Spirit Leader, instead of mascot, but hey.

A mascot should be something you can own and take care of, it should not be "YOU" yourself.

Is OP seeking any kind of financial compensation tied to this design? If not, would the University in a perfect world be able to trademark/license it?
You would be correct in, it would be great to have a mascot created by an alum and not some marketing firm.

In regards to my compensation for Al, i can say this. This is a passion project through and through. I love the university. I love our fanbase. I love being a Ragin Cajun! Love it! If UL ever sanctions Al, I would hope they would show some financial love back, but that’s only so can pay Burt more money for the amazing work he did with this image. I will never be a hurdle when it comes to Albineaux.

With the Parish Ink thing, this isn’t their image. Al is definitely inspired by them! But even their image, is just a combination of other sailor mascot images they were inspired by. I reached out to them, but they never got back to me. That worked out for the better because Burt does so much amazing work businesses around Acadiana—cite Adopted Dog’s beer labels.

If they take issue with it, then me and Bram at Parish Ink can try and work something out.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. I'm not against you receiving compensation btw, only concerned about that being used as a hurdle by our administration. I hope Martin Hall gives it consideration.

Yeah the people on their are not the biggest fans of change it seems. They are the most out of touch, and still hold a deep love for Cajun Man. In my weeks (really months) of person to person testing Albineaux reactions, I had to show people who had no connection to UL the Cajun Man mascot. Unanimously, they all thought he was terrifying and terrible. Having a giant humanoid head anything is always a hard sell. Add on, we couldn’t even give him a name. Just…Cajun Man. The most uncreative, uninspiring, and literal interpretation of a Ragin Cajun.

I think the largest institution in the university of Louisiana school system bathed in rich culture, can do better than just some guy in a hat.

What sucks too is they’re completely ignoring Al acknowledgment of their love. His pinstripes are an important part of his design! Half of Albineaux is a Cajun Man reference! But that’s not good enough for some.

They never had any love for Cajun Man when he was around that was why he was so short lived.

Hilarious how they are grasping at straws now that a viable option has emerged.

Goodness, someone really likes the love child of Rosanne Barr and Herman Munster? Nipple head was a step up from that blockhead, no personality, exciting as paint drying mascot.

Someone important must hold the TM on that.

We need to court the younger generations on this one. Too many times, when evolution was necessary, we leaned on the opinions of the deeply entrenched gate keepers or the out of touch malcontents.

Let's get this one right and ask the people that will be the torch bearers.

You are absolutely, positively correct. This decision won’t be for a year or five years. This decision will be the future. Your comment is spot on.
