It won’t blow up the way we want it to.
I predict that the big schools are going to get tired of having their fate placed in the hands of mega donors they can’t control. They’re going to break away and create a professional league so they can get control over this. They have the money to do it.
Agree, its moving more and more towards an NFL football model consisting of maybe 32 schools with ESPN and FOX leading the way with made for TV games. College presidents have the ability to stop this excessive 'brand collection', but thus far at every turn are willing to ditch tradition for the money. There's nothing to suggest the dumb things we're seeing now stopping anytime soon. And its a matter of time before the players become university employees which makes the college game even more expensive than it is today for fans. Like Z said, its going to blow up.
Maybe our administration is ahead of the curve and just slowly chunking it in now…
