The music reflects the mood of the country IMO. Having said that no era was ever more optimistic than the 50’s. America was at it’s peak as the be all, end all of the world. The music reflected that. Yes, we still had some very troubling racial issues, but even the black music was dynamic and mostly optimistic. Chuck Bary, Little Richy , Fats Domino, The Killer Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, The Big Bopper, Richie Valence, Ricky Nelson. Locally Rod Bernard had a national hit appeared on American Bandstand. One of the lyrics was, I’ll forever live in sin, was too taboo for national audience. Had to be altered. Lots of musicals transferred into popular music.
