I agree with JMV. Hit the road

    No idea what offers Themus
May get. However Jamarcus Fitzpatrick of KATC TV 3 tweets this
Morning that despite being in portal, Themus could return to Cajuns. He may be kicking tires to see what is his best offer and Cajuns may have opportunity to match his best NIL offer. Again, last sentence is just my speculation and is not based on any knowledge. This situation is unfortunately too common in today’s world

We literally just won a championship and many of our players were transfers or had transferred before. Two our assistants also came from another place before this year. Seemed like there was sufficient loyalty and brotherhood.

The key issue is, I want to buy in... Missing out on a sport is never a good thing. By the way, your correct. This is what sports has become. like it or not. Legal cheating.

We took transfers on guys who were not getting the opportunities.

Coaches kick tires every day, their are probably 10-20 college coaches in America in all sports that aren't kicking tires (guys like Nick Saban, come to mind). I don't fault the kid for looking around to see if he can get an offer, the system is F'd up, but this is what you are going to get with the NIL and transfer portal being the way it is.

I said it before, I have the solution to this problem, but the NCAA does not want the problem to go away.

Here is my ultimate solution to the transfer portal and NIL deals.

#1--Every college athlete in America receives 1 free transfer, meaning they can transfer once from college to college without having to sit out a year.
#2--For each transfer after #1, they have to sit out a year (go back to the old system after the first transfer).
#3--exception to above rule would be in extreme situations (NMSU basketball this year as well as St Francis shutting down the program, I would also review what to do if a coach leaves a program and possibly add another transfer year, but that would need to be discussed and voted on by the AD's in the country.)
#4--NIL stays in effect, but you cap the number that 1 NIL deal can be. For instance Gordon McKiernan can only give a kid X amount for the deal he has with him per year. This won't stop the craziness that is in the NIL deals, but it will stop Multi Millionaires from throwing tons of money at a kid. Now their will always be ways around this, for instance one single millionaire could have multiple LLC's and each LLC could cap the kid with an NIL deal, but for the most part it would limit where and what can be given, kind of like a salary cap in pro sports. That cap can be a moving target annually, but each year it would need to be determined ahead of time.

Obviously this would not stop all of the nonsense but it would cut down on it quite a bit.

I wonder how many people realize how many times Marlin put out feelers. As recent as last year, in fact. The program he was flirting with? One of our biggest rivals.

College basketball revolves around the portal right now. Hopefully enough stories about players careers ending because there wasn't an open spot will slow down the transfers. Saw the other day that the entire starting 5 for Northwestern entered the portal.
That was sarcasm. It didn’t come across well on the message board.

If TF wants to get closer to home, that's acceptable and he should be welcomed back to the team if that doesn't work out...if that's the case. Winston-Salem is a 14 hour drive... If its for more NIL $ have at it...And don't let the door hit you in the azz...

Serious question for some of you portal experts. Does a player have to officially put themselves in the portal in order to begin fielding potential NIL offers from outside sources? I'm assuming its against NCAA rules in order for outside groups to offer an athlete under scholarship at a university NIL funds. So, maybe he's just in the portal to see what NIL interest he would get but may very well be looking to stay? Thoughts?

And if JB stays another year its very likely because he was able to get a larger NIL deal than he currently has now so I'm sure we'd be OK with that.
