A delayed start due to rain and cool temperatures didn't deter Sophie Daigle on Friday as she set the women's 5k record at the Louisiana Classics. Daigle won the event by 22 seconds with a time of 16:53.66.
With only four events on the docket for the night, Louisiana track and field still had a stellar night in their outdoor opener. Peyton Chiasson placed second in the men's 3k steeplechase with a time of 9:39.58 and right behind him in third and fourth were teammates Mason Haley and Justin Unger.
Following Daigle in the 5k was Haley Salsbury in sixth place, but she recorded a new personal best time of 17:34.36. The men closed the night with the 5k, claiming second and third place. Louden Boudreaux's time of 14:53.72 clocked in second while Adam Cortez's 15:04.55 placed him third.
Day two of the Louisiana Classics begins at 9 a.m. from the Home Bank Track/Soccer Facility with events running all day.
