You can have success many different ways in baseball. I'm not saying the man is wrong. I'm saying that this style of baseball is very frustrating to watch for old school baseball people, of which I consider myself one. When it works, its fun. And that's great. But when it doesn't, it's really ____ing off.
I can get to Baton Rouge plenty of ways. I just think taking H167 to H90 to H354 to H31 to H741 to H190 to H77 to H76 to I10 to H1 to back to H190 to I110 is less than efficient.
Deggs is not doing anything different now than he did when he was here in 2013 and 2014. He had 9-11 position players that could flat out play during that time. That was it back then so he didn't juggle the lineup as much as he's done since becoming head coach over here. He has more options and actually more position depth than he had in '13 and '14. That's not saying this group is more talented than those teams but he does have more players to give opportunities to. That won't change and his style won't change either. He was super aggressive on the bases then and he's the same way now. Head scratching moments back then and the same now. He's a gambler like it or not. Very non traditional to say the least but this guy will win and it will be exciting.
Agree. And I get it. I'm not really for or against. Just annoying af a large majority of the time. I think it says a lot that we improve down the stretch of the season when roles are truly defined. Baseball is a game of regimen and expectation and I can only imagine how difficult it is to have your role constantly being changed. Conference play this weekend and we are still auditioning for key roles. Not my style, but it's what we got. I just want to win.
Btw, Miss St brought literally about 5000 fans last night. Very impressive fan support. Total attendance was almost 6000
Agree 100%
There are WAY more available solid pitching choices this year than last. There’s still no true #1 starter, but there are a lot of options, and plenty of capable bullpen guys.
And the offense is good enough. Their only issue to this point is, as you pointed out, situational stuff.
And those things usually evens out after the ebbs and flows throughout the year.
One interesting thing about this years team is an over abundance of left handed bats. Normally teams have the opposite. There are a lot of LH hitters that deserve ABs. And not enough spots for them all. And when we face LHPs, the RH hitting reserves haven’t been getting it done.
