“One Bid” league

At the end of the CBS show, they showed a graphic of bids by conference. I glanced at it quickly but I think I was correct in my prediction that their were only 8 leagues with more than one bid. 24 had only one. The eight that had more than one included the P5 conferences, the West Coast (Gonazga and St. Mary-I think that is the name of their league), the American (Houston and Memphis), and one other which I don't recall right now. It may have been the Atlantic 10. Jay can probably clarify here. If I am correct in this, that means 75 percent of the leagues in America are one bid conferences. That does not mean the SBC should not aspire to be one of those with multi bids or that UL should not strive to be one of those considered for an at large. When you accomplish something that is very difficult, it is much more rewarding.

Take a look at Florida Atlantic. They played two power five schools. They got beat by Ole Miss to finish near the bottom and had a victory over Florida by two points. They won 31 games and are projected as an eight seed. Why are they projected so high? It’s because they beat the rest of their nonconference opponents like a drum. The only team in the field they beat is Northern Kentucky. That strength of victory evidently means a lot to the committee. By contrast, Charleston has almost the identical record and is projected as a 12.

But FAU is a 9 and Charleston is a 12. FAU beat Florida by 1. Charleston beat Virginia Tech by 1. FAU lost at Ole Miss. Charleston lost at North Carolina. I'll point out that Charleston's win over VT was at home.

Both teams were 31-3 with two losses in conference.

So why the huge discrepancy? Many of Charleston's OOC wins were by very close margins. FAU beat the tar out of their OOC opponents.

Strength of victory is a lot more important than we think. And, it's the reason why the SBC has suggested playing teams at home that you can throttle as a way to improve the NET ranking.

Eventually, this will create a system where nearly all mid majors will be locked in to 12 seeds or lower due to the pre-season ranking bias baked into the cake every year for major conferences.

P5 wont play on road and if they do on occasion its with a peer P5.....therefore Road wins needs a much bigger weighting in the NET. True for football & baseball too.

Conversely Home wins need to count even less than they do now.

Agree and it seems in basketball home field advantage is more pronounced than in other sports.

Yes, but the most glaring difference between the two resumes that you failed to mention was the difference in Strength of Schedule. So, it's not just margin of victory but it also Strength of Schedule. That is the reason why the regular season schedule matters.
