Default Ken Pom- Current Pomeroy MBB Ratings

Anyone speak Pomeroy ratings? Its Greek to me. Trying to figure out how Marshall remains 9 rankings higher than UL. Thought Drake winning its conference would help. Or its it just as simple as too many non-D-1 games on our schedule dragging down our rating in an otherwise successful year?

Non D-1s have nothing to do with that.

One of the things the NET looks at is strength of victory. That really helps the P5's because they play almost exclusively at home non conference, schedule teams they should be handily and then do so.

To Marshall's credit, while their non conference schedule didn't feature any heavyweights, they really did well, scoring margin wise, against their non conference opponents (most of them at home.) That helped their NET. Their conference record was equal to ours and their overall record was about the same.

If there is same emphasis on winning margin in home and away games, Net is a bad way to evaluate a teams strength.

Agreed, but evaluation was never the goal here. Net is simply the newest tactic to exclude more non-major conferences and schools from the Tourney.

Yep, the major conferences tend to get a bit watered down when you look at their 7th or 8th team that gets into the tournament. Those teams don't often create the excitement that a mid major or two does as the tournament goes on.

Certainly true on the first weekend. But there are many (Jay Bilas is one) who think we should do away with auto qualifiers, let alone at large mid majors and just put the best 68 teams in. I don't think that's going to happen in my lifetime. But it might in yours.

If and when they go to 96. They’ll keep the non power conferences involved but the money pie will then have 96 plates to fill. Always, follow the money.

Just like the proposals for the CFP. Still one slice of the pie for the G5, more slices of the pie to give out.

This year’s Cotton Bowl made a great argument for this in football too. There can’t be a Cinderella if she doesn’t get an invite to the ball

KenPom ratings seem to be a thing on the CSSN boards. At the end of the day, it’s ego driven and men’s absolutely nothing, other than hits for the board.
