Thread: Basketball points

All these people diminishing Marlin's accomplishments just because he has low self esteem baffles me.

He did a fantastic job coaching these players up and shouldn't be giving credit to a road trip 6 months ago for 3 days in March.

I doubt the claim is that the road trip deserves ALL credit for this year's success. But even if the trip only contributed 1%, Cajunmike's claim that it contributed is still valid and true.

Did they cut down the undefeated nets of the the Cajun Dome?
60 grand they got from going to Drake would not have allowed the purchase of a name team to come here. Not enough there to do so.

It doesn’t have to be accomplshed with a single money game.

In some years bringing in a quality opponent could affect seeding in the Big Dance, and seeding has a lot to do with whether a team has a chance to advance or not.

This team got better and better as the season progressed and I think Marlin did a great job of coaching. But I don't think Puerto Rico had anything to do with winning the Sunbelt tournament.
Define quality team? What makes you think that it’s strictly a money issue?

Their chemistry made them great. While Jordan Brown is good, I don't think this team (as a whole) was especially talented -- even judging against Coach Marlin's other teams.

Not sure about PR but not having to play the #1 or #3 seed helped.

Saying Drake paid for the trip.

Just think if they had went to Puerto Rico for spring training AND stayed in the same dorms!!!! We would've won a natty for sure!

ESPN announcers and Joe Linardi discussed this in the last ten minutes of the first half of the South Alabama game at the CD a week or so back. Some really need to watch it and save some brain cells from beating their heads against the proverbial brick wall.

Hint, it’s NOT money. And no, I’m not getting on the merry-go-round discussion to nowhere.

1%? OK, let's give credit to shoes also. Wearing shoes has to account for at least 1%, right? I'm being a smartass of course. And I'm not saying it couldn't have contributed some to the success, but let's be real. If a trip to PR is what contributed to THAT much success, then we should take that trip every year and got to the dance every season. We're splitting hairs here.

Yea, we are splitting hairs. But to be fair to the OP, he did not quantify how much the trip contributed. Only that it helped with chemistry.
