Mike is a football guy. Like Billy was a football guy. There is a reason there are multiple layers to an organization of this size. Where are the promotions and marketing people? Where are the content creators? Where are the writers covering the program? Where are the ticket sales teams?
This is why we constantly bring this up. RR should be allowed to cover the team. KATC should be covering Spring Football instead of TSAB WBB. We should have a dedicated beat writer. But none of that matters to the people that are most responsible for promoting our product.
Hudspeth was a unicorn, in that, he was really great at getting people to games and put together some successful seasons. But he burned hot and we crashed after 5 years. I want to win games and be successful on the field. We have a bigger staff than when Hudspeth was here. People need to do their jobs and let Mike coach his football team. I'm not saying he shouldn't do anything, but its not Desormeaux's fault that no one is covering spring football.
“If there is more of a true son to the University of Louisiana than Mike Desormeaux then I don’t know who that might be”

What good is having a true son if he doesn’t use that to his advantage and promote his university and program. Now that every thing has settled I’d love to see mike make a huge push throughout Acadiana and other parts of the state this offseason promoting his program. If not the “True Son” then who?
Great opportunity here I hope he capitalizes. How often do you get one of the toughest to ever where a uniform at a school in position to promote like Mike has the opportunity to do?
Programs around the country now have Chief Brand Managers on staff. They handle a lot of this stuff. Coaching at this level has become so much more involved than just football, you have to expand support staff. Again, I'm not saying Des shouldn't do anything but it should not be his job to line a lot of these ideas up. He should have handlers for that.
You are correct as far as things like promoting spring games and so forth. But every coach in America, especially of big time programs, go on speaking tours during the off season to promote their program. To me what better person than a person who’s name ends with eaux to promote the Cajun brand all across Louisiana and Cajun country. Des may have to get out of his comfort zone to do so but the time has come. It’s a very important summer for him and his program to drum up some support.
It’s just a really busy time. I have on that day a Passion play that my daughter is in and Holy Thursday services at church. Every Catholic Church in Acadiana will be full Thursday night. I would imagine a handful or so of those people are a part of your already challenged spring football crowd. Just a tough night to compete with for an intrasquad ball game.
Not sure if serious…
This right here...some of you think it's the head coaches job to publisize a spring game...it's not. It's the job of a couple departments in Athletics...it's the lack of a message and poor messaging. If you can't develope an idea and then execute the idea, no matter how creative you are...then there's the door.
We are in agreement here! At this university you need to get out and promote your program. You cannot accomplish that goal by just hosting a golf tournament and attending fundraisers. Hudspeth understood this, Napier had surrogates do some of this, but he also had national interviews with people like Tim Brando.
I'm not sure what Des is comfortable with, but he better get comfortable with it. Dr. Maggard has had this question raised, including from myself. You want to sell tickets, get on the bus and get out on a tour, and give people a reason to be invested in your program.
Who says they are not promoting the spring game? Just saw this on Twitter. What you want TV add?
