This is a good night to say, "That's baseball"
For the past few years we have all gotten excited about our hitting before the year starts cause we constantly get told how awesome we look offensively in the offseason. I think most of that is attributed to us facing our own pitching and how average our pitching has been since Tony passed away. Just an observation. As for this year goes, I don’t think rice nor byu had “great arms” but I’m not gonna say the offense won’t come around. It normally does. It just takes a bit.
We having an off night..We're not giving up. And like that we score
Rocco with the RBI double. Willis scores.
Brock hits a long sacrifice fly and brings in Hood.
McNeese 4-2; 2 outs
We are not out of it.
I hear you, but I’d somewhat disagree. I think BYU had some very solid arms. Rice is more of a question mark. BYU though has been mentioned in more a few of the college baseball podcasts and articles preseason as a potential regional team with good returning talent. And they also held La Tech’s offense down pretty well for the most part. Granted we have no way of knowing how good Tech is this year.
However, just by the eye test, this year’s team is smacking the ball around the yard with power. And we couldn’t say that this early last year regardless of the pitching talent across the diamond.
The fellas didn’t seem ready to play tonight. It’s an early season road loss to an in-state team we see every year. I’m not worried about the team. What I am worried about is the effect this could have on RPI down the road. If McNeese ends up in the top 100 then not a big deal. If they end up somewhere around 200 or worse then this loss hurts even more.
Hopefully we just make a comeback in the 9th.
5 to 3 pokes
5-4
