True. The tournaments are more made for TV events than anything else. Or maybe just take 1 & 2 seeds and playoff at #1 seed's home court for national exposure. Worse case scenario is the 2 seed beats #1 the SBC still has a very good rated team in NCAA and #1 going to NIT. Other than Pensacola being a nice place to conduct a tournament, there's too much downside to current format. I don't understand why the SBC is doing the wide open format unless its just to do what everyone else is doing.

Those rebar a wins don’t hurt or help. Odds are the MAC crossovers next year will only solidify both conferences’ one bid status.

They absolutely hurt. You get zilch for playing them. Play a top 25 team and at least a possible upset.

We had to play the 3 non D1’s to get to the required 14 home games.

Cut salary by $400k and buy 3 quality D1 home games.

Normally over the past decade I would agree with this. But the big boys are playing their share of nobodies. And no conference has the market cornered on power house teams this season. The SBC not only has four 20 win teams, they also have two 19 win teams & well over half their league is above 500 for the first time in years & years. They have 9 teams with winning records & the worst record any team has is ten wins. Even the P-5 conferences can't boast much better over all records if at all. And let us not gloss over again the fact that those teams have plenty of patsies padding their schedules.

And the power conferences are about to pad their NET ratings by playing themselves in their conference tournaments. Just like the Sonic Shuffle”, follow the cup with the prize.

Cajun T was kind enough to answer my question about quad 1and 2 games...Quadrant one wins are those home games vs. teams RPI ranked 1-30, neutral games vs. 1-50, and away games vs. 1–75. For example, a home win against a top 30 team would qualify as a quadrant one victory.

A Quadrant 2 win are those at Home against the RPI 31–75, neutral 51–100, and away victories over the RPI 76–135.

That is the correct explanation the way I understand it. It is one of the tools used by the committee to award at large bids and to seed teams. Of course it favors the major conferences as even less talented teams in those leagues get the opportunity to play highly ranked teams at home. With more and more large schools refusing to play ANY true road non conference games, no wonder well over 20 of the conferences are one bid leagues.

A LOT of netural (51-100) games coming up. The deck gets further stacked.

If anyone has any doubt about the P5 avoidance of G5 home courts, go watch the South Alabama/UL MBB from this past Friday night. First half, sometimes after the 10 minute mark. A long discussion of exactly this topic between the game announcers and the mothership studio.
