Thread: 2023 Football Schedule with dates

Not to knock our friends at ULM, but I would much rather have USM as our main rivals.

    1) We've played them a lot longer. (First football game: USM 1923, ULM 1951.)

    2) Fan interaction is important for strong rivalries. UL & USM alumni interact in New Orleans... not much overlap with ULM.

    3) USM is stronger in all sports.

    4) They're also R1.

IMHO, it would get more people to the games to make them rivals.

BTW, apparently LTU couldn't decide if USM was 'worthy' to be their rival. On Wikipedia they list UL, USM, and ULM as their rivals... but I hear from some of the USM fans that the LTU folks pretty much looked down at them, as they do with UL and ULM. We are merely stepping stones to their birthright of complete national dominance.

I haven't been able to get a USM fan to admit it yet, but from passing comments I have heard over the years, I suspect that one of the reasons USM wanted out of C-USA was to get away from LTU... all fans are obnoxious, but C-USA was apparently shocked at some of the things LTU fans did.

I know that UL was one of the draws for USM to come into the 'Belt, as were USA & Troy. After the AAC raided C-USA, geographically and academically, the SunBelt became much more attractive.

South AL plays Tulane early in the season, would be nice to see them pull off the upset and add strength to the SBC schedule.
3 games in Alabama. We’ll do 2 of them.

……Hey Fun, do you remember Charles Lancaster ( UL Alumnus…track letterman….KSig…..State legislator? Tried to get UL vs USM in the Super Dome every year…..that would really be fun!

And remember that we went TO marshall AND USM last year.

Guess we’ll see how much love the conference has for us when we play James Madison in two years

I'm not sure, but I as I remember I was the person who suggested that.

I can tell you this much: Some years back I contacted the head of the NO Sports Foundation, pointed out how well UL pulls fans to NO. Suggested they give us a Labor Day weekend game against a P5 team.

A couple of years later, we're opening in NO against Miss State. After that, I think Covid hit.

And I thought it was interesting that State scheduled FSU in the 'Dome on LDW. You'd almost think they were trying to keep us from establishing a pattern.

But certainly, State wouldn't go out of their way to keep us from moving up...
