Thread: Games that Impact future Cajuns' RPI - 2/24/23

  1. UL Baseball Games that Impact future Cajuns' RPI - 2/24/23

    Previous Opponent:
    #2 Stunford hosts Rice
*I'll be interested to see how Rice's Friday night guy handles the Cardinal lineup. Would be great for us if the Owls can steal one this weekend.

    Upcoming Opponent(s):
High Point travels to T-Town to take on #20 Alabama Fri & Sat
*Apparently, High Point has some talent. Will be interesting to see them matched up against (what I think) is a comparable opponent to UL. After sweeping a decent Bryant team to open the year, HP got absolutely hammered by App St Tuesday night, 16-7.

    Campbell hosts Butler
*Campbell's last tune up before traveling to Lafayette. They just disposed of ECU 6-5 in their midweek game. Interested if they continue putting up runs against an average pitching staff.

    Conference Mates:
Mississippi Normal hosts Illinois at PTP
*Big 10 RPI should be good this year, so a series win could pay dividends down the stretch, even if the Fightin' Illini don't have a great year (which they probably won't.)

    Texas St entertains Oral Roberts
*A pair of regional teams from last year, we should see offensive fireworks in this series. Both can swing the bat. All Texas St did was go out and outscore Northwestern 56-18 last weekend. ORU will be a step up in competition and likely ends up with a Q2 RPI.

    South Alabama vs Nebraska
*Although Nebraska has been on the upswing the last couple years, they started 2023 by going 0-3-1 against San Diego. USA has a weird shutout loss to E Kentucky, but really hasn't been tested yet. With Nebraska due to bounce back, I think this is one to watch.

    Stanford 6
    Rice 3

    Alabama 9
    High Point 4

    Illinois 13
    USM 5

    Nebraska 5
    South Al 4

Side note, when searching for the South Al score I realized that their baseball account blocked me on Twitter.

Stunford takes the first two games, although Rice did compete yesterday. Ultimately lost 7-4. We just need Rice to take the game today and it will benefit us tremendously down the line.

High Point lost the series but the games have been competitive. (9-4 Fri / 10-6 Sat) High Point is not the walkover series that people might be expecting.

Campbell hung 25 runs on Butler yesterday to take the series and they'll go for the sweep today. Good for us.

Southern Miss got their asses totally kicked Friday night and Illinois slapped around Tanner Hall at PTP. Very surprising. USM then came out and fell behind big Saturday before their bats woke up. They ended up winning 14-13 to even the series and go for the series win today. We need them to take care of business.

REALLY good series going on between Oral Roberts and Texas St. Series tied 1-1 going into Sunday. Hopefully the Bobcats can get that win.

South Al all lost a tough one Friday night and then got drummed Saturday 15-3. Not a good result for the conference in that series. Jags need to salvage something today. Their pitching looks thin on the back end, so I'm not too confident with how good the Nebraska lineup has looked this weekend.

Competitive scores matter? I didn’t think so, just an indicator that you’re capable of possibly getting a win.

Of course it matters. High Point competing with Bama is an indication that you can't take them lightly. This isn't Saint Peter's walking into the Tigue...

Matters for competitiveness and judging an opponent. But not for RPI…
