The wind died down in the eighth compared to what it was. And yeah, that was a well hit ball.

Need to capitalize better on 4 errors.

Zambo’s post game interview on KATC, sounded just like a hockey player. Credited teammates, not himself. Well done.

Hate to bellyache, but would love to watch what appeared to be a terrific come-from-behind victory for the Cajuns. OOT Alumni would pay a small fortune to watch what could be streamed online by the senior communications majors from an iPhone. Please, Admin, fix this. The home opener?!?

Marshall looks like the back end guy. 5 batters faced and 5ks.

Glad we got the dub but with BYU committing 4 errors you like to us capitalize more. Pitching tonight was very good, we’ll have to keep that up it looks like they can swing it a bit.

Come on man, only five games this year not streamed. And no, nobody is going to throw an iPhone up there.

    Observations

    Encouraging stuff:
    1) Max continues to play solid defense at 3rd base. Very happy about that. Gives us options.
    2) Brendan Moody appears to be the guy I thought he was. Everything he throws sinks late. But I'm most encouraged by how he adjusted on the fly and PITCHED to a decent offense. He missed a few times up in the zone and that will happen. But he showed me something last night.
    3) Mason Zambo with two clutch ABs when we needed them most. I know he hit the bomb on Sunday, but he had a few questionable ABs over the weekend. Good to see him make the adjustment.
    4) Blake Marshall. Another guy who I thought we missed dearly last year. I didn't notice what his FB topped out at, but he threw a steady dose of wipe out slider anyway. If he can sit 91-92 and then offer up that filthy slider, he will be a headache for both R and L handed hitters.
    5) The young Freshman Stelly wasn't scared of the moment. Yes, it was a flare shot, but he stood in and had a quality AB in a huge spot.
    7) Julian Brock is a game changer behind the plate with that arm and awareness. He thwarts Offensive attacks more often than we probably even realize.
    8) Shoutout to the coaching staff on scouting efforts and having guys in the right position to make plays. Several times, BYU hitters hit hard balls right to our defenders in the shift.

    Concerning stuff:
    1) When you're on the Golden Spikes list, you'll get everyone's best. But Rocc looks like he's pressing. Couple more bad ABs with RBI opportunities last night. Hope he's healthy, but seems like he's just chasing.
    2) Veillon. Poor guy is not having a good time. Several awful ABs and picked off again on 2nd base to halt a big inning. I realize he's dealing with injury, but a lot of this stuff is mental.
    3) Bad ball swinging early in the count. Big portion of the lineup look impatient in 3 of the 4 games.
    4) Yes, we are 3-1 and I love winning. But we've been the beneficiary of two clubs that beat themselves a lot. 4 errors last night for the Cougars. We scored 3 of our runs directly related to those 4 errors.
    5) While I thought their FR pitcher had great command, a plus secondary pitch (what was that, a circle change? Couldn't tell), the fact remains, he's a true FR pitcher, making his first ever start, on the road, at the Tigue, after being away from Provo for 2 weeks. I was pretty shocked that he dominated this offense for 7 innings. (Credit where it's due though: Poise and pitchability was excellent)

Opening Night at The Tigue stuff:
    1) Agree with the folks saying the atmosphere was... off. Maybe it was Mardi Gras hangover. Maybe it was midweek opener. Maybe it was the weather. But something was definitely not there.
    2) Speakers in the grandstand were either off or very low. Speaker in the third base grandstand sounded like a blown Sony Xplode 4x6 in your high school beater. Awful.
    3) How do you have the stats input for BYU but nothing for our home team on our home scoreboard?
    4) Please fix the lightbulbs on the scoreboard.
    5) Who exactly is running Balls/Strikes up in the box? It was wrong the entire night.
    6) We don't need to play the broken glass sound on EVERY foul ball. So annoying.

See y'all at the park tonight.

Lots of people out of town for MG and lots of retail just plain closed up this week. We don't even have any ball boys, bat boys.

All good points. May I add to "Opening Night at The Tigue #7 :

    7) Can we get rid of the 'Woo Woo" crap ?

They were apparently trying to supply the entire stadium with sound from the first base speakers, if they weren't blown they probably are now. They were obnoxiously loud. Is it not anyone's responsibility to test run all the stadium equipment before opening day? and get everything working properly?

    I asked the same question.

We have 5 different fan bases at this school. Two of them are hardcore. Baseball and Softball. You'd think we'd do everything possible to keep them happy. Last night was not an acceptable presentation to our baseball crowd and for the great reputation that playing in Lafayette gets, I'm sure the away folks were underwhelmed.

Sorry, but this is on Maggard. He knows how much this program means to this university. What happened to doing everything in a "First Class Manner".

I'm not ready to go that far. Middle management is part of the structure for a reason. Someone needs to do their job. I doubt Maggard knows how to set up a stadium sound system, run a video board or input stats properly.

Yea, the sound was terrible but we had the perfect home opener. Great energy last few innings. Cold beers and crawfish nachos were legit.
