They were $5M under in revenue, but the holes are filled by fees from the university. Louisiana state law requires that universities fill the losses with institutional support. Legally UL can not run a deficit in Athletics.

Maybe its apples and oranges, but would this $5 million be a part of the 1 1/2 state allowance for institutional contributions to athletics?

BTW, the State legally can't run a deficit either.

UL has always budgeted only 2% vs the state allowed 3% of school revunues. I think to this day they still do this. Each 1% is about ~$7-8 million. UL is technically over budget but in reality if they would budget at the full 3% vs 2% they would still be at a budget surplus......assuming they still only budget to 2%.

The 3% max vs 2% actual spent by UL when factored over the last 25 years is well over $100,000,000 surplus.

IMO it's time for UL to simply budget for the full 3%. If anything to negate any negative PR.
