Most people realize next year's squad is gonna take a significant step backwards losing our three best players. Four years of mediocrity with the payoff being a team that doesn't win a title and then returns to mediocrity would be pretty unappealing to most fanbases. I would venture to guess you'll see some crowds like last night's, and it won't be because of late games, other sport conflicts, or holidays.
There were more people willing to sit out at The Tigue on a Wednesday Night in the rain than to watch a 22-7 team indoors try to win a Conference Championship. Tells you all you need to know.

When Marlin says it's about three days in March he should know. He & his colleagues made it that way.

In some ways that game reminds me of our home football game against MTSU the week after a fantastic comeback win against Houston. Both were statement games, both made the wrong statement.

I told you guys when this all started that this would be a 7 loss or less team and I stand by that as it will be fact after tonight.. I still believe we go to the big dance, and I still believe without injury that we have the pieces to get to da 16 and we will see what happens .

    We are LOUISIANA

    PS : X factor ( Dalcourt and Kobe )

After skimming through most of this, I still think the program has plateaued under Coach Marlin. The "3 Days in March" thing is him saying that's our only ticket to the NCAA Tournament because the Sun Belt is a one bid league. However, while the NCAA is the standard to work towards it's not the end all in regards to if a season is successful. NIT is just like any bowl game that's not in the playoff. It's extra practice & more time on the court to build towards the next season while getting a nice payout.
It’s the only ticket to the tournament because UL refuses to play enough and unable to win the games that would make them an at large team. Of course the conference could actually help if everyone upped their schedules.

Look at Texas Southern a few years back. Went on the road OOC and played nothing but power conference teams, actually won a few. Luckily for them they won the conference because at large wasn’t a possibility. You can only do so much if your league doesn’t buy in over many years.

That was more about money than it was exposure or power rankings. Unfortunately, MEAC and SWAC teams are as far away from an at-large as you can possibly get

Same applies to every one bid league. The highest net team for the SBC is already sitting on the outside looking in before the week of conference tournaments that will weaken the SBC’s top dog.

    Conference dragged them down.

As fun as that would be it’s not possible. Learfield requires us to have a certain number of home games. Contrary to popular belief among many on this board, Marlin does have good connections and is well liked in the coaching community. But money is the main factor in scheduling and out of his and maggards control. Nobody wants to play here. That’s a fact.

Why would nobody want to play here?

One example is LSU didn’t play one true road game before conference play. Most P5’s don’t play on the road. Our pickings for home games are very slim. UNO doesn’t want to play us anymore. Mcneese either. SFA and another school I can’t remember straight up said no to a multi year home and home. I think mid majors would rather go make money at the big boy schools instead of helping each other out like we should. I really don’t know why it is like that. There’s really no reason why we shouldn’t be playing same year home and homes with Texas schools.

If South Alabama can host Auburn, Arkansas State can bring in Air Force, and Georgia Southern can bring in Florida Gulf Coast; we can bring in someone somewhat decent outside of 3 non-D1 schools.
