It is ironic how the grass is always greener on the other side.
We saw this with the so called gig economy. New flexible positions, able to work on your own schedule maybe even multiple gigs, great right? Those who are in the 8-5 office cubicle world thought so (or maybe the 6-6 or 7)…. but nope, the “giggers” themselves sued to get employee status, then lose the flexible schedule, etc, etc all other “advantages” one might see in that setup they thought the 8-5 grind (traffic commute, etc) was greener?
Emmert being thrown out like Jazz on Fresh Prince and all of the extreme loosening of "rules" by the NCAA makes a lot more since.
The NCAA is about to go bye-bye and they've known if for a while now. Presiding judges basically said, "athletes are employees."
It was a very very bad day in court for the NCAA (and their embarrassing attorneys. Yikes)
If this goes through the average school would pay around 4.4 mill a year with federal min wage
I think to say that the NCAA is going away is extreme. College athletics will always need a central governance structure, but there is no doubt it will be changing.
That said, as we are already seeing with NIL, etc, be careful what you wish for. The inmates want to run the asylum and political “leaders” with no care of future implications are helping the cause.
The NCAA and school/conference leadership allowed it to get to this point. Reap what you sew is in full effect.
. . . against that universities may try to argue a credit by player for NIL . . . there sure is a hornets nest being created as the courts widdle away with the NCAA created concept of amateur status and the control which this gave them for years . . .

If all athletes are actually employees then these $$$ comes out of the general budget vs athletic. Simply increase tuition to cover these "general budget expense increases". Totally bypasses need to raise funds separately or via new student fees.
As employees their physical training, nutrition, meals, housing , equipment/uniforms etc all become general budget expenses.
Employee salaries would also replace CoA
. . . full circle on the concept of student fees . . . let’s call it tuition . . .
Trying to get back on topic…the death of the NCCA is great, but the next Pandora’s Box is coming…unionization and collective bargaining.
