UP Next: Cajun Netters @ HEB Invitational

Cajuns will travel to Corpus Christi to play in the HEB Tournament of Champions, this has almost become a tradition for the Cajuns to be invited to play in this tournament. This tournament traditionally hosts some of the best mid major tennis teams in the country. The Cajuns won the HEB last year defeating Abilene Christian, ETSU and UTSA on their way to the championship.

aTm-Corpus Christi has not posted the schedule yet nor who will be playing but I did some looking around and I have found 7 of the 8 teams participating this year. Some pretty good teams will be attending, so here is what I know so far:

UL 4-3
aTm-CC 5-1 (only loss was to the Cajuns)
Depaul 5-5
NMSU 0-5
ACU 6-3
Oral Roberts 3-5
UTSA 2-4

I am missing the 8th team, but I will see if I can search around and find out who that might be. I would not look too much into the records of these teams, usually many of these mid majors play some brutal schedules early in the season to prepare for conference play. For instance the 4 losses that UTSA have are to Oklahoma, Texas, SMU and UC-Santa Barbara, they have wins over UNO and a usually good UT-Arlington team.

So the draw is out. Cajuns will face NMSU in round 1. If they (and they should) win they will face the winner of DePaul vs host Texas a&m corpus in round 2. The other side of the draw is UTSA vs oral roberts and radford vs ACU.

This is not as strong of a tournament as in the past at the HEB. But the Cajuns still have a good chance to grab a couple of nice wins vs corpus and UTSA on the way to a championship.

Basically the Cajuns are the #1 seed, followed by #2 UTSA, #3 ACU, #4 corpus, #5 DePaul, #6 radford, #7 oral roberts and #8 NMSU.
