Carla Urchoeguia claimed her second victory of the season in singles competition with a straight-set win and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns opened its home schedule with a 6-1 win over Southern University on Friday at Cajun Courts.

Lucie Raquin, Cristina Tchanichev, Angelique Berrat and Stephanie Atelius each earned straight-set victories for Louisiana (1-2), which will face McNeese on Saturday at 11 a.m. before hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Urchoeguia and Berrat gave Louisiana an early 1-0 lead when they clinched the doubles point after a 6-2 win over Southern's Agye Mintah and Takalani Molaoa on the No. 1 court. Raquin and Tchanichev opened the day for the Ragin' Cajuns with a 6-1 win over Paris Washington and Kai Wince at No. 3 doubles.

Berrat gave Louisiana a 2-0 lead in the match when she earned her first singles victory at No. 5 singles – a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sasha Taruberekera. Urchoeguia improved to 2-1 on the season in singles play after she earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kourtni Stewart at No. 2 singles before Raquin clinched the match for the Ragin' Cajuns with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Molaoa at No. 1 singles.

Atelius earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Olivia Jenkins in her singles debut at No. 6 for Louisiana before Tchanichev defeated Washington at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
