Doesn’t Marlin’s contract end this year? As in we have no buyout now?

Unless he decides to retire he’s not going anywhere. It’ll be interesting how they restructure his next contract. I’m guessing the base salary will be lower and it will be much more incentive based.

What has he done to deserve a next contract?

Another guess here but I’ll say winning 20 games, being in the running for a conference championship and continuing to graduate his players. Whether you, me or anyone else actually agrees with it makes no difference. That’s what matters to Savoie.

My guess is a Top 4 finish for the regular season will get him a new deal, regardless of tournament performance. And yes. Judging by the number of people actually attending games at this point, it's become abundantly clear the decision makers do not care about the opinions of the fanbase.

Collective fault. We had success in going to JB early as he was scoring at will and had nearly 20 by half but when this team is playing really well, its done so by a collective effort of JB, rebounding and guys hitting outside shots. When you limit yourself in that regard, you will not be as successful against good teams.

But didn't Cajunsmike mention earlier in the season that going into this season there were much simpler and direct criteria required to get another contract? Like winning a championship whether that's regular season or tournament? The 20 game thing is hard to use as a measuring stick these days with the weak schedule we play.

He could have. I’m just saying are you gonna let someone go for going let’s say 23-7 in the regular season and 25-8 overall with a finals appearance? I’m not thinking as a fan. I’m trying to think what Maggard and Savoie would do and I don’t think they’d let him go after a season like that.

I don’t disagree with you here. I actually think their analysis will be something very similar to this. It would be incredibly short sighted though. If you look at the trend of us only being good under Marlin every 4-5 years, it would seem we would at least want true excellence in that year. Sadly this program has become beyond an afterthought, which sucks because Cajuns basketball got me in to Cajuns fandom in the first place.

    Ditto.

Sadly I think every UL sport as long as we’re eating a 5 mil deficit, meh will cut it for coaches.

Would actually be cheaper to hire a new coach no way he would take less on a new deal .. currently 800k a year for Marlin is ridiculous average sbc coach make 350k
