Felipe Haase scored all 17 of his points in the second half while DeAndre Pinckney scored 12 of his team-high 22 after intermission as Southern Miss earned a hard-fought 82-71 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a battle between the Sun Belt Conference co-leaders on Thursday at Reed Green Coliseum.

Yup, another 10 game streak would be nice. By chance, 5 regular season games, 3 SBC tournament games, 2 NCAA tournament games…sweet 16. Just sayin’.

overall the crowd was nice, the students were there, but that was because they had every team in that crowd for a "mardi gras" parade with them at half time,, the facility sucked tight isles and rows, concessions were impossible and they ran out of beer in the first half

Um. We had all teams in attendance for academic awards last Thursday and still couldn’t draw 3.5k for a team on an 8 game winning streak. Southern Miss just has a superior fanbase across the board, students included. They also have a president fully bought in on athletics, so there’s that. Last Saturday was cute. I’ll see the same 2K people in the Dome next Thursday.

Winning or losing last night is almost irrelevant. My guess is we will meet up with them in the conference tourney finals and that's when it matters. No team is getting an at large bid.

I believe that it’s important to be seeded 1 and have a post season major tournament locked up. It’s important to be seeded as well as possible if we get to the NCAA tournament.

It’s better to be 27-5 than going to the NCAA tournament at 5-27.

So the constant reminder that the NCAA is the only thing that matters is wrong, and possibly stupid without context.

That's true. But I'd rather lose last night and be better prepared for the tournament than vice versa. Yea, it freaking sucks to USM and it sucks to to not have the inside track at a regular season title. But the ultimate prize is still ahead of us.
