Just because Rocco may be listed at CF over Max does not mean that he beat him out for the position. To me, it appears that we have a liability at 2nd and Coach is willing to give up elite speed in CF to sure up the infield. If you didn’t do a double take upon hearing this, than you haven’t been following along.

Offensively, this team is going to have as much quality depth as any Cajuns team I've covered. Yesterday in the intersquad, one team had the returning starters and the other team was just as good. As a result, you'll see a lot of guys play and Coach Deggs will be able to mix and match depending on strengths. This team will be VERY good offensively. There's a battle right now at first base, third base and left field. You may see multiple guys there depending on matchups. (It should be noted Will Veillon is limited to DH duty this year because of injury.)

All defenses start up the middle and the Cajuns will be very good there with Brock behind the plate, Marusak and DeBarge in the middle and Roccaforte in center. Coach told me at the end of last season he felt Marusak would be very good as a middle infielder and the fall and early spring has shown me he was right on.

I think we will have more quality depth in the pitching staff than we did a year ago. But we don't have a "dude." There is no Devey, Dohmann, Ardoin, Faught, Moody, Osborn, Robichaux, Baranik or Leger. As a result, that quality pitching depth will have to perform.

Hope those of you going to Houston enjoy opening weekend. Can't believe it's less than two weeks away.
    Thanks for the rundown Jay

Last year Coach Deggs played Robertson all over the place, to me what that meant on a given day was that Coach felt the lineup he put on the field gave us the best chance to win on that day . . . no more no less . . . well, as Jay said, we should see many changes in the lineups over the course of the season or even a weekend . . . sorry but following along will not require a position for position evaluation of who is better or not better at a position one is not playing on any given day . . . that’s just silly . . .

For what its worth my son was over last night and we were talking about this conversation. One of his best friends since his Freshman year in high school is one of the kids that Jay has listed as competing for the 3rd base position. According to that kid Max is their best defensive out fielder. But Max also projects at the next level, by the scouts as a 2nd baseman, which is why he made the move to the infield this year. If you watched any amount of this team last year and saw him in center and the way Deggs used him offensively there is no doubt he had the best wheels on that team. Dude is fast.

Trey Lafleur, Mason Zambo and CJ Willis are all working at first base and I don't know who has the edge. I can tell you Zambo has improved a lot. Sucks that all three are left handed hitters.

Two freshmen, Caleb Stelly and Luke Yuhasz are both good hitters and will push for playing time.

And, that's what I was trying to say earlier about depth. I think you're going to see a lot of guys play and all may start from time to time.
As a long time Cajuns fan is it OK to have a favorite in the battle for 3rd? Asking for a friend.

…..l.Cut his pants above the knee….(Bermuda shorts)……Cajun Clothes……Football guys wear their pants above the knees which can cause serious patella injuries……they do this in the name of speed, so, it’s no brainer time!!!

NIL Baseball idea: Could bands pay players to use their song as the “walk up” song when they come up to bat?

You pay bands to use their music in a public event.
