    UL Baseball Baseball

Nice crowd for fan day yesterday. Kudos to Anthony Babineaux who hosted the whole thing.

Offensively, this team is going to have as much quality depth as any Cajuns team I've covered. Yesterday in the intersquad, one team had the returning starters and the other team was just as good. As a result, you'll see a lot of guys play and Coach Deggs will be able to mix and match depending on strengths. This team will be VERY good offensively. There's a battle right now at first base, third base and left field. You may see multiple guys there depending on matchups. (It should be noted Will Veillon is limited to DH duty this year because of injury.)

All defenses start up the middle and the Cajuns will be very good there with Brock behind the plate, Marusak and DeBarge in the middle and Roccaforte in center. Coach told me at the end of last season he felt Marusak would be very good as a middle infielder and the fall and early spring has shown me he was right on.

I think we will have more quality depth in the pitching staff than we did a year ago. But we don't have a "dude." There is no Devey, Dohmann, Ardoin, Faught, Moody, Osborn, Robichaux, Baranik or Leger. As a result, that quality pitching depth will have to perform.

Hope those of you going to Houston enjoy opening weekend. Can't believe it's less than two weeks away.

You do sacrifice some up the middle defensively with Rock in for Marusak. Marusak was definitely the best defender in center that can cover the most ground. I guess there are no other capable 2nd baseman? So that sacrifice in center is done out of necessity?

Who are the early leaders at first and third if you had to predict a lineup today Jay?

If you don’t know that my comment about who was the better center fielder last year then you have just proven you didn’t watch. Marsuak missed games due to injury and it was obvious we took a step back defensively. You are once again proving that you know nothing about sports.

Trust me Deggs knows that Marsuak is the better center fielder and he’s losing speed and range with Rock in there. He saw the same team that I and everyone else saw last year. There is a reason why when both were healthy Max played center and Carson a corner spot. I am not by any means saying Rock is a bad player. He just doesn’t have the God given speed and ability to cover as much ground as Marsuak does. Anyone who paid attention to last years team can tell you that.

You got the wrong person. Never spoke bad about Max or Carson on day of my life. I think they are both fine young men and an asset to the baseball program. We are fortunate to have them both.

To simply make the point that we are losing speed in the out field by replacing Max with Carson isn’t talking bad about Rock. It is just simply stating an obvious truth.

What is going on here?! Big Pappa is making some very valid observations. Definitely not throwing shade on anyone.
