• A win would stretch Louisiana's SBC win streak to nine games, tied for the third-longest in school history and equaling the mark last set from Jan. 14-Feb. 11, 2016.
• Louisiana enters the game sixth among 352 Division I ranked programs in 3-point field goal percentage (.397), 12th in field goal percentage (.490) and 17th in effective field goal percentage (.556).
• Louisiana is 21st nationally in rebound margin (+6.5), 21st in scoring offense (80.3) and 36th in assists per game (15.6).
They started doing this to adjust for so many teams choosing to shoot 3 pointers over 2 pointers. This is the analytics of why more guys are shooting 3 pointers today vs years ago.
From the internet search:
eFG% - Effective Field Goal Percentage; the formula is (FG + 0.5 * 3P) / FGA. This statistic adjusts for the fact that a 3-point field goal is worth one more point than a 2-point field goal. For example, suppose Player A goes 4 for 10 with 2 threes, while Player B goes 5 for 10 with 0 threes.
From a casual observation 3 point shots seem to actually have better odds than shots inside the 3 point arcs.
So that is the key and part of the reason, specifically in the NBA people want the 3 point line moved.
If you hit take 22 of your 3 pointers and make 8 of them that is 24 points with a 36% rate, 2 pointers are shot at around 45%, so you have to almost 10 of those. 10 x 2 = 22 points, while 8 x 3 = 24 points. It makes more sense to shoot a lower % but hit your threes than a higher % of 2 pointers. Also, long rebounds off 3 pointers are easier to get an offensive rebound then a short 2 pointer.
. . . Probably not as layups and put backs are in 2 point category . . .
Man this day is dragging on. Tryna sneak out early so I can welcome our guests from the Lone Stupidity State
Does a win tonight add 2000 additional attendees to Saturday’s game?
