MT: Pairings Announced for Men's Tennis' Home-Opening Tournament

The bracket and opening round matchups are set in place for the Louisiana Winter Classic, an eight-team men's tennis tournament, presented by Barton Advisory Services scheduled for Friday, Saturday, February 3-4 at Cajun Courts and the adjacent Bourgeois Hall tennis courts.

This is exciting news, originally this tournament was only showing Nicholls and Tyler JC who I think were 2 of the 3 teams that were supposed to play in it last year and then Nicholls ended up not participating and it ended up being Xavier and Tyler JC. This year we have 8 teams entered and some of them are very good teams.

This year Nicholls comes in 0-1, but did finish last year 11-10 and made it to the 2nd round of the Southland tournament. Should be a win for the Cajuns.

If we win that we will play the winner of the USM vs aTm-CC match. Corpus traditionally has a very good team, the Islanders are 2-0 with two easy wins vs Prarie View A&M. They finished last year 15-10 also losing in the 2nd round of the SLC tournament.

USM on the other hand is 1-1 with a win over Bucknell and a loss to FGCU, who is usually very good. The Golden Eagles finished the season 9-10 last year.

The other side of the bracket will feature a 3-4 UTRVG team that has losses to SMU, Lamar and 2 losses to nationally ranked Oklahoma State. They finished last year 6-17 and they will take on a tough Abeline Christian team that is 4-2 this year with losses to TCU and Air Force but a really nice win over ETSU who is traditionally very good. ACU was 13-12 last year and won the WAC tournament but losing in the first round of the NCAA's to Baylor.

The other matchup will be Tyler JC vs UT-Arlington. Tyler is usually a very good JC team, they will be over matched vs UTA who is a pretty good team. Arlington finished last year 13-12 losing in the 2nd round of the Sun Belt tournament.

Here is my thoughts.

Cajuns over Nicholls 6-1
aTm-CC over USM 4-3

ACU over UTRVG 4-3
UTA over Tyler JC 7-0

UL over aTm-CC 5-2
UTA over ACU 5-2

Cajuns over UTA 4-3
