Thread: New NCAA Rule Spells End for Transfer Portal's "Wild West"

I have assisted in the preparation of several requests for waiver of the 1 year sit out for athletes transferring to the Cajuns prior to the recent rule change . . . they were difficult to get then and the NCAA is telling us that they are retaining the same standards and rules for the athletes second transfer . . .

Serious question. So nothing changes on the 1 time free transfer rule?

If that’s the case, the title of this article needs to be changed.

Biggest impact would be to spring sports.

The NCAA Division I Board of Governors adopted one major change to transfer portal rules on Wednesday, but opted not to enact another.

Under the new rule, athletes will be required to give notice of intent to transfer within certain “windows” that vary depending on the sport. Here are those parameters:

Agreed, if the amount of years remaining is the same. From a G5 perspective, getting a transfer that has 1 or 2 years remaining still seems like a bad investment to me.

I see it differently. The NCAA’s attempt to rein this in is actually the doorway out for the P5 football leagues. The courts rulings regarding player movement trumps the NCAA.

They simply say bye bye when those leaving all get on board. Case in point, Texas and OU trying to get to the SEC sooner.

End up with 2 different organizations, no monopoly.

And I’m NOT a fan of basketball or any sport going from 64 to 90. If your league’s best MBB team has a NET greater than 90, it’s still a one bid league but with 90 slices of money instead of 64.

Not if they are a plug and play(immediate impact player)with an immediate need to fill a spot.

Those low risk players probably getting way more NIL than we can afford. Again diamond like that are more likely out of high school. Missing on high school is a one year miss not necessarily 2-3 years.

Cajuns better step up their portal game. The Necksters just got a commitment from Boise’s 3 year starter at QB. Cajuns have to play the game by the new rules.

Doesn’t look like their DOA conferece is hurting their recruiting prospects.

Wonder what their Lafayette quarterback thinks about that new guy.
